Deep rooted change !

As I follow the Malegaon blasts investigation story.............I am reminded of my thought process couple of months back.

India has been rocked by a series of blasts in this year and each time the search starts and ends targeting a specific community. This was disturbing and probably created a sense of hatred among the people. The public started generalizing and associating every incident to someone from the community. I found this annoying to a certain degree. I caught myself in an argument with my roommate.

I even blogged about how this sets a bad precedent. This kind of behavior will lead to isolation of the community and the country will find itself divided over the course of time. Consequences would be severe for young ones who will find it difficult to understand as to why he or she should not have a friend belonging to a specific community. It would be a crime if we sow the seeds of hatred and discrimination in the minds of young one's.

It's interesting to see a twist in the tale of the investigation surrounding the recent blasts. The investigators might even hit a roadblock, but it's a way or means to remind everyone watching that riots, terrorism or violence is not inherited by a community or religion.

Rather it's the deed of a group of select individuals who have damaged some of their brain cells. At the end of the day it's one human being against another in the name of revenge or retribution.
Catching the culprits and hanging them won't bring back the dead. It won't wipe away the fear and it certainly won't stop the killings. No. The change has to be far more deep rooted.

It's not that simple either. The people who commit acts of terrorism do so because their sense of justice has been so beaten out of shape by the oppression that they or their communities undergo. It is easy to demonize them as brain damamged. But that doesn't help one bit in getting to the root of the problem. Unless we treat suicide bombers as humans with an intact moral sense and not as depraved people, we will always be fighting the symptoms and not the root cause.

One more I want to add in this discussion. How many Hindus have started "introspection" for their own religion. This is the question we always ask from Muslim community. Now terrorism can be seen as a part of Hindu religion too. Its aashrams, temples can be seen in the same way we see madarsas and mosques.
I think malegaon incident has made it clear that terrorism is not specific to any religion.

The motivation for terrorism is not the religious tenet, whether it be 72 virgins in Paradise or anything else. It is the effectiveness of the method at hurting and drawing attention to the matter.

If the response to any level of atrocity is an act of terrorism.......then I guess I cannot justify it.

At the same time, I have been fortunate to have not gone through whatever these people have had.......so cant really figure out their thought process.
Moreover why take the vengeance against innocent people, made sense if it was against whomsoever was responsible.

Drawing attention to the matter........well how many people actually try and find out why the act was committed.

The first reaction to this is hatred and in most cases it's left at that.....and these people fall prey to vested interests too.

Trying to seek a justification or otherwise for terrorism is practically a futile exercise. The point is to try and address the root cause of the problem. If problem is resolved and stability is achieved, it wouldn't make much sense to go about prosecuting those who abetted terrorist activities during the troubling times. When the problem, which is usually political, is addressed there remains no more cause for terrorist activities. The religious bigots or bigots of whatever persuasion will not be able to find recruits for their hate.

Drawing attention to the matter, even if it means unsympathetic ones, counts as a positive step compared to suffering without being noticed. Usually within the wave of attention drawn there is some sympathetic ones and that suffices to trigger some kind of investigation into the matter.
